What makes it necessary for animal cells, although they have no cell walls, to have intercellular junctions?
A) Cell membranes do not distinguish the types of ions and molecules passing through them.
B)Cell-to-cell communication requires physical attachment of one cell to another.
C) The relative shapelessness of animal cells requires a mechanism for keeping the cells aligned.
D)Maintenance of connective tissue shape requires cell to adhere to one another
E) Large molecules, especially proteins, do not readily get through one, much less two adjacent cell membranes.
Answer: there are severall types of intercellular junctions
your ansawer is definetly not A
and i don't think E really answers the question
and i don't know that D is even a truth
if it were me, i'd pick either C or B
no wait, i'd pick either B or C

A cell junction is a type of structure that exists within the tissue of a multicellular organism. They consist of protein complexes and provide contact between neighbouring cells, between a cell and the extracellular matrix, or they build up the paracellular barrier of epithelia and control the paracellular transport. Cell junctions are especially abundant in epithelial tissues.
In vertebrates, there are three major types of cell junctions:
Adherens junctions and Desmosomes (Anchoring Junctions)
Gap junctions[1] (Communicating Junction)
Tight junctions (Occluding Junctions)
Invertebrates have several other types of specific junctions, for example Septate junctions or the CeAJ (C. elegans apical junction).
A desmosome, also known as macula adherens or macula adherentes (Latin for adhering spot), is a cell structure specialized for cell-to-cell adhesion. A type of junctional complex, they are localized spot-like adhesions randomly arranged on the lateral sides of plasma membranes.
Desmosomes help to resist shearing forces and are found in simple and stratified squamous epithelium. The intercellular space is very wide (about 30 nm). Desmosomes are also found in muscle tissue where they bind muscles cells to one another.
A gap junction or nexus is a specialized intercellular connection between a multitude of animal cell-types[1][2][3]. It directly connects the cytoplasm of two cells, which allows various molecules and ions to pass freely between cells.[4][5]
gap junctionOne gap junction is composed of two connexons (or hemichannels) which connect across the intercellular space.[4][5][6] Gap junctions are analogous to the plasmodesmata that join plant cells.[7]
A notable use of gap junctions is in the electrical synapse found in some neurons.
Tight junctions, or zonula occludens, are the closely associated areas of two cells whose membranes join together forming a virtually impermeable barrier to fluid. It is a type of junctional complex present only in vertebrates. The corresponding junctions that occur in invertebrates are septate junctions.

Why do animals and humans have such a good connection?
My dog acts human..i have a very good connection with my dog..i dont know how or why though. Shes a yellow lab. Shes 9 now so shes beginning to get even more affectionate.
Answer: I do not know the reason for it but I want to say that I do know and agree with what you are saying! My dog also is like a person and have a personality that is very identifiable, just like people. I think animal are more loyal than people and have less evil, in fact I do not think there is any ill will to them as with people, only animal will act vicious from instinct to do so and not a desire to harm someone. Even the cat and bird that I have are their own little person, it is so noticeable. I do not know even why people like to eat animals it is so heartbreaking when you think of it to eat something that have feelings just as we do.

do you think humans should breed endangered animals?
to start i want to say that i really love animals and i am against any type of cruelty to them. i think all animals deserves rights, however. i dont think we should attempt to breed dying species. it has always been survival of the fittest and this leads to evolutions and adaption. i understand that we might be the cause of some of these extinctions. but its all part of the "survival of the fittest" theroy right?.... by trying to save these animals, are we actually preventing them form adapting to the environment we created and killing the possible evolution of these animals?
Answer: Hi Some O,
Interesting question you ask!
I think there are three different issues in your question which bear touching upon.
The first issue: Dying species: It depends on what is causing the dying off of species. In my belief, all species are precious and help to keep the bio diversity of all of them, including plants and inseccts, in tact. A couple of years ago, the bees disappeared almost completely, and have still not returned to normal. Whether it was due to a virus, or enviornmental factors caused this disappearance, bees are essential to crop development. Every species has a reason to be on our planet, and every species is important. So if all the bees all of a sudden became extinct we would be in huge trouble since they are so essential for cross-polination of our fruit and vegetables.
This being said, we need to look at the major reasons for species extinction. According to Wikipedia, these reasons are:
Destruction, Modification, and/or Fragmentation of Habitat
Introduction of Exotic Species
Overharvest
Global Climate Change
The second issue:
We may think that a species is not necessary for our well being, but the relational connections between all species, and in fact, even our vegetation is vital.
An excellent read about diversity of species and its importance can be found here:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/conservation/4409407/Darwins-Galapagos-species-under-threat.html
Now back to your question about whether humans should breed endangered species. Keep in mind that bees fall into this category.. and without bees we are in deep trouble.. using bees as a template.
The third issue:
I do not think that humans should keep wild animals as pets. This is a dangerous situation for both human and animals, as was so strongly brought to our attention when Travis, the Chimpanzee, attacked his owners friend, resulting in tragic injury to the woman, and the death of a Chimpanzee. One less Chimp.. due to a selfish need of a human to "employ" a Chimp and keep a wild animal as a pet.. hardly under the right conditions.
I don't think that most humans should be breeding wild animals in their homes, either. This being said, unless we want to see the kill off of all our precious species of animals, we need to intervene, and protect them, and, yes, under the right conditions, breed them, hopefully to return them to their natural habitat. It is not the species' fault that their environments have been stripped away from them, and they are encroaching on man's territory, which was taken from them.
Personally, I would like to see my children's children see tigers and lions and chimps and other wild animals in real life, not to just see them in photo albums.
Our planet's population is just getting out of hand, which only adds to the problems which wildlife face. The main reason for species die-off is our fault.
Your theory, therefore has nothing to do, really, with the survival of the species. Healthy, vibrant animals cannot reproduce well given the way in which we have piledged their environments for our needs. Thus, many species will either evolve to meet their rapidly disappearing resources, or will become extinct. We have caused this.. we can fix it, if we really care about them
So while scientists and wild life specialists work hard to rebalance the environment, and hopefully put an end to, or significantly impact habitat encroachment, endangered species need to be protected and preserved. There is such a delicate balance in nature right now.. not enough wolves, or polar bears or big cats, ( I could go on and on ) to keep other species in a healthy population. Most of them starve to death today.
Yes, certain species may adapt if possible and ultimately evolve, but I would sure hate to see what happened to the bees continue to happen with our beautiful endangered wild life.. but humans have no right to keep them as pets.Sadly to say, many of them need to be bred in captivity by those who know what they are doing, and who have the continuation of these species in mind.
I don't think that the correct breeding programs will prevent possible adaptation and evolution.. many of these species no way fit into the survival of the fittest as defined in this article below.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survival_of_the_fittest
Let's pray we clean up our planet and preserve our wonderful endangered species in a sane and sensible manner. We , as humans, are the caretakers of the planet... and right now, in my opinion, we are falling short of our responsibilities.
Sorry to go on, but I am passionate about this.

When did the tradition of giving wedding and engagement rings begin?

Betrothal in its legal sense ("erusin") is performed in the following manner: After the ordinary benediction over wine, the person performing the ceremony continues as follows: "Blessed art Thou, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who hast sanctified us with Thy commandments and given us commandments concerning forbidden connections, and hast forbidden unto us those who are merely betrothed, and permitted unto us those lawfully married to us through 'canopy' ["ḥuppah"] and 'betrothal' ["ḳiddushin"]. Blessed are Thou, O Lord, who sanctifiest Thy people Israel through ḥuppah and ḳiddushin," after which the groom hands to the bride a ring or some object of value (not less than a peruṭah, the smallest current coin), saying, "Be thou betrothed unto me with this ring [or object] in accordance with the laws of Moses and Israel" ("kedat Mosheh we-Yisrael").

At what point in time did we humans lose our connection with nature?
we come from nature, we are still part of nature. let most humans in this advancing world tend to hold on to superficial things. I feel like a lot of people no longer care about the Earth we live on. we are polluting the air, destroying wildlife, killing animals...mindlessly destroying our beautiful planet to make way for artificial things.
so at what point in time did humans begin to lose the love, respect, and compassion everyone once had for nature?
Answer: I'd say after Darwin's theory of evolution. With the progress in science and departure from religion, the world started to know more and therefore, hope less. Seeing that great creatures like the dinosaurs were doomed to be extinct, humans felt threatened since one day they might too, but the only thing that remains is nature. It was no longer looked at as an escape; the unrealistic Romantic approach was becoming useless, so nature was rather a vicious force that devours everything and remains alive and powerful. The Industrial Revolution was also a major factor. But you know, many people still feel that they're one with nature. There's more awareness now and many people try to do whatever is environment friendly after realising the damage they've done.

When Aristotle said that man is social by nature and that man is a political animal?
Was he right??
There are many people i know who prefer to be alone than have ANY connections. Wouldnt that contradict human nature Aristotle talked about?
Answer: Of course Aristotle was right!!! He was a genius and very much like Einstein in mathematics --- although Aristotle's genius was more in logic and physics than in mathematics --- even though he was entirely competent in the geometrical and mathematical theories of his time.
So when you write that there are "many people" who prefer to be alone than have connections (presumably with other people), you clearly argue (better; "imply") that such persons are counter-examples of/to Aristotle's thesis in the first Book of his treatise entitled "The Politics". In short, your examples are apparent and apparently antisocial counter examples of/to Aristotle's thesis.
But you didn't read him closely enough --- especially the part of that same thesis which reads--- Man (ie. anthropoid animal/s) WHEN PERFECTED BY LAW AND JUSTICE is the BEST of all animals, but when BEREFT (lacking) OF LAW AND JUSTICE, he is the WORST of all animals --- the most unholy, brutish and savage of all animals BECAUSE he is equipped with arms, at birth, which can be used for good or evil ends (ie. purposes). And armed INJUSTICE is the worst of all evils (among men), etc. etc.
Thus your apparent "counter-examples" to Aristotle's thesis are actually merely mild examples of persons who would be "armedly unjust" if you pushed them about their antisocial tendencies --- in other words they might kill other persons (who "bothered" them) if they were more extreme examples of "unjust" (otherwise known as "antisocial") persons.
In other words --- your apparent "exceptions" actually prove Aristotle's rule about the capacity of human beings to be either just and social or unjust and antisocial sorts of beings. That is the actual "nature" of human beings --- the capacity to exhibit CONTRARY sorts of behaviour. I love some of the other answers you received which also exhibit the "contrariety" of human beings --- which is part of their nature (eg. Mary, Mary quite contrary... according to an old silly poem...)...
ANSWERER:
I can't speak for anyone else, but I prefer to be alone. I hate human beings. I would laugh and even PRAY for the near extinction of this worthless 'scum of the earth' species.
I only communicate with people while under duress.
So arguably, yes this might contradict Aristotle's theory.
Source(s):
What's your source?
ANALYSIS:
This person says he hates others and ONLY COMMUNICATES WHILE UNDER DURESS. So why did he voluntarily answer your question arguably with NO DURESS??? [Contrariety!]
He asked you for "your source" which is straight out of the first chapter of Aristotle's Politics.
ANSWERER:
Even loners require society, at least to the extent of survival and not social enjoyment.
Analysis:
Good answer, but short.
ANSWERER
the people you talk about could fall into a few categories : they are unsocial and reserved by nature - they are misanthropic and cynical and jaded through life experiences - they are antisocial and have no regard for others - otherwise Aristotle theory is right . man is a social being that needs others for happiness and healthy sanity.
ANALYSIS:
Fails to understand what Aristotle means by "nature". Take a simple example from Aristotle's Physics --- matter is NOT either hot or cold "by nature", but rather has the POTENTIAL to be either HOT or COLD. eg. Liquid Water tends to be cool "by nature" but can become HOT by the application of FIRE to that water which becomes STEAM which is hotter "by nature" than liquid water. But water in and of itself has the capacity to be either HOT (steam) or COLD (ice). That is the nature of water in and of itself --- it has a capacity to obtain or exhibit contrary qualities. Human beings also have such capacities --- less in the hot vs. cold varieties of "contrariety" and more in the varieties of "just vs. unjust" sorts of CONTRARY behaviour.

What is the least traumatic way to take kittens from their mother when ready for adoption at 10-12 weeks?
A homeless cat adopted me and I subsequently discovered she was hiding 3 kittens. They are beautiful & healthy (vet checked etc) and I have found homes for them for when they are ready but I have no experience with this previously and I want to make sure the separations take place with as little trauma as possible. They will be 10-12 weeks. They are currently 6-8 weeks and are suckling less and mostly for comfort at this point.
2 of the kittens are going together, the 3rd to a home with other pets. I am keeping the mother who is herself less than a year old. Can anyone offer advice? Thanks.

Answer: I've had many experiences with separating mom cats from their kittens. They are all different just like humans. Some become more attached while others could care less. You have to know your mom cat and determine the best route. Many people could care less so I applaud you for having a heart. If your mom cat seems to be protective of them still then it is too early. You'll know in a few weeks when "man" has said they are ready to leave their mothers. When there is a strong connection with the mother and her babies then it is best to remove one at a time from the litter. In your case I would remove the two that are going together first and hold on to the other little sweet pea a few days. Once the kittens are all gone it would be wise (since you care about your mama cats feelings) to spend more time with her and shower her with attention. It's stressfull for many cats when their kittens are gone. If you notice her searching and crying then she's under a tremendous amount of stress. She'll need to be held and loved. Again, I've had some that could care less when their kittens leave and I've had the opposite. I currently have a kitten/cat (6 months old). She and her mother are both inside cats. Her mom lives next door. At times one or the other will start crying and circling and we know it's time for a visit. We get the mom and kitten together and they LOVE it!!! They have a strong bond. Many will say that it doesn't happen because they are "animals". But, I'm here to tell you it happens. They are lucky to live next door to one another. In most cases that doesn't happen. Your kittens will have an easier time than the mom will. But... you'll be there to show her love. I hope the transition goes well and God bless you for being such a caring individual!

Why do people seek emotional connections? Why would they want to be dependent and weak?
Vegans, are you so weak that you seek the adoration and love of animals in addition to that of other humans? Why do vegans constantly search for approval?
Answer: someone seeking the love and adoration of animals tends not to be vegan. Animals should be free to live in their own habitat free from contact with humans. People seeing love and adoration of animals tend to be zookeepers, circus trainers (although abuse is rife), even some farm workers. Vegans would be happy never to be in contact with an animal, and happy knowing they can live free from harm from people. There's a big difference between saying "torturing and killing that being is unacceptable to me so I want no part in it" and saying "I want that being to love, cuddle and adore me".
Pet owners seek love of animals in their care, and that should be ALL pet owners, not just vegan pet-owners. Knowing they love you is a sign that you're taking good care of them.
Many people say the reason they can't go vegan is because it could strain personal relationships and cause friction with emotional connections with those around them as food is so important to a lot of people, and a lot of people who like to cook meat and use eggs and dairy have emotional bonds with their food and take pride from food alone, and seek to bond with other humans through food and providing meals, and can become greatly offended when someone questions their offerings. Vegans have the strength to say to people like that they admire their cooking and culinary skills, but won't eat the food due to its ingredients. Whereas others desperate for approval and to fit in will eat the food regardless. That's one thing about humans that makes change so difficult. To simply do something different to other people can cause others who are less secure in themselves to take your decision personally and come out with attacks.

Why do you think an animal has an instinct to avoid death?
Im just wondering how a gazelle or insect knows that death is a bad thing? How would animals be able to evolve instincts that encourage their survival, especially since I dont think animals fully understand the concepts of death or even an understanding of what life is all about the way we do.
So why do you think animals take care to not let themselves carelessly die?
Answer: Threat awareness and threat avoidance are both variable, genetic traits. Both traits overlap with others that may control mimicking parental behavior (learning), neuronal connections between the senses and motor systems (proprioception ), etc. Because these traits are genetic, they are present in a population over a range of expression, so individuals perceive, understand, and avoid threats with variable efficiency. In other words some animals have better instincts than others.
The animals that cannot perceive threats very well will be quickly eliminated by predation no matter how well their threat avoidance behavior is. The animals who quickly perceive threats but do not respond to them very well will also be quickly preyed on. On average, animals with better threat perception and avoidance will survive better than those with poorer qualities, and the genes that provide these traits will become fixed in a population and passed onto offspring with the greatest frequency. Over time the animals that survive are the ones that are genetically predisposed to be less careless and more adept at avoiding threats - those that aren't feed the predators.

How much should we offer on a block of land?
We are looking at putting an offer in on a 6 acre block, 10km out of town. The block has power and telephone connections available. There is no mains water or gas and has no rubbish collection. The block has some restrictions, a house built on the property has to be over 150m2, all sheds must have a total floorspace of less than 220m2, about half an acre is vegetation which cannot be cleared. Stock levels must be kept at 1 animal less than the Department of Agricultures guidelines.
The block has been on the market for approximately 4 years, originally being listed at $400,000. It is now listed at $270,000 to $310,000.
In the estate where this block is located there a 4 other blocks for sale, ranging in price from $270,000 to $290,000. 3 of these are neighbours to the block we are interested in. The last block that sold in this estate was in 2011, for $273,000, which had a better view than the block were looking at. And since then prices in the area have fallen between 5 to 10%.
Were thinking of offering $240,000. What is a good amount to offer of this block?
Answer: I'd start at 220. You can always pay more. You will never pay less.

My son had an allergy test today and it came back negative to almost everything. Why is he reacting?
My son has reacted to fruit and some other foods for the last 2 years. He is 3. We went to the allergist today and they tested him for all of those and for animal and plants and molds. He reacted to cats. We do not have a cat thankfully. But shortly after leaving the allergists he had diarrhea. That is a normal reaction from the foods that they are saying he is intolerant to, but no allergy to. What should I do?
Answer: This can be a little puzzling. And while I don't have the information to provide a definitive answer, I'll give you a few tidbits that may help you seek additional information.
The antibody that causes allergies is IgE. The placement of IgE can be uneven throughout the body. Skin tests are not always a sure thing for food allergies because the immune response may be centered in the intestinal lining but not in the skin. This is even more true while the immune system, with its connection of ducts, is still maturing. A food allergy is less likely to register on a skin test if he is not getting a diaper rash from his diarrhea. A better bet would be a blood test. As the white and red blood circulatory system are fairly well connected to the blood coming off the intestines, this may be your next step in focusing your search.
Second, you may want to consider that your son has an allergy to what is on the fruit, not the fruit itself. There are residual pesticides, herbicides, and preserving waxes that can remain on fruit after rinsing it in water. Even trace amounts can induce an allergy. That means that transfer is possible between unwashed fruit and a cutting board. These types of allergen triggers are not likely to be tested for on a general allergy panel. One suggestion would be to try organic fruits and vegetables, cut on a clean cutting board for his consumption only. Purchase from a reputable organic dealer that isn't going to place small baskets of organic next to traditional produce. If this makes a difference, then you have gained some insight.
Finally, you have not indicated how you determined that he has an allergy except that he has diarrhea. Another possibility is that he simply has a microbe in his gut that is consuming the sugars in his food, fermenting them to organic acids. He may have difficulty breaking down/converting fructose... kind of "lactose intollerant." Or, your son may have an allergy/intolerance to one of these organic acids produced by the microbe during fermentation. Or, the organic acids may simply be reducing the pH in his lower intestine, resulting in a irritation of the colon, triggering diarrhea. If there is a 12-24 hour lag between consumption and loose stool, this could be a good possibility. Allergies typically flush the system faster than this for children. There would also probably be a fair amount of gas generated if microbes are the problem. One option could be to try a product like "Dan-Active" yogurt for a week or two, to see if populating his intestines with other bacteria helps.
It can be a tough road to figure this out. But if you pay attention, control what he is eating, and see how that changes his problem, then it is much easier for you and his doctor to figure the issue out.

What are your thoughts and feelings about animal racing?
Im asking this because I just saw an episode of Walker Texas Ranger where a horse collapses after racing (not because of racing, though). I honestly think it is cruel, even if the owners are loving and caring (which theyre not if they make their horse do this). Forced to spend LOADS and TONS of their days racing till theyre out of breath, I wouldnt like that, what makes you think animals would? Id just like your opinion to see. :) Thanks and have a great day. Blessings!
Answer: I'll speak only for Horse Racing, since this is the category your in. You have a right to your opinion. Sharing opinions with open minded individuals is educational. Sharing opinions with closed minds is an argument. I have an open mind. I honestly believe horse racing needs some reform, however, cruel would be if there was no outlet for these horses to use their natural ability. Believe it or not racing is something that the horses really do enjoy. No one likes to see casualties or tragedy. Accidents, especially one involving serious injury or loss of life is sad to us all. Horse racing 'is' survival for many. If horse racing was banned that would end the process of breeding, eventually leading to extinction. I'm all for regulating breeding, not end it, which is a different issue altogether. Keep in mind the industry employs Millions upon Millions of people who are involved and/or associated one way or another with the horse racing industry, which provides revenue to the economy. The racing industry creates the most jobs with Full Time Equivalent employment directly and indirectly. With approximately $39 plus billion in direct economic impact the horse industry importance to the overall health of the American economy cannot be denied. When indirect spending is included the amount jumps to a staggering $102 plus billion dollars contributed to the American economy. The economic impact is surprisingly well balanced between various aspects of the industry with approximately $32 plus billion generated from the recreation segment, $29 billion from the showing segment, $26 billion from the racing segment and $14.7 plus billion from other industry segments that trickle down. Bottom line endless jobs are created and available due to horse racing, and the facts & figures above are regarding America, worldwide it's worth would obviously be even more. Can you imagine how cruel live would be all without it.
What I find is that many people judge the sport because they experienced a broken heart..a horse they loved was hurt or killed because of it, and they turn their feelings into hate for the sport forever. The truth is, no matter where we look, sports or otherwise, there's the good, the bad, and even the ugly. People only see what they choose to see, and until they realize risk is relevant to anything or everything in life. We have no choice but to deal with those who are ignorant and don't see the big picture. In a perfect world things would be different, there would be away to prevent accidents and injury, which sadly causes random horses to be hurt and/or euthanized, we would never see tragedy, and could live without fear and watch these magnificent animals race with peace of mind. Horse Racing has come a long way, learning from each tragedy. In my opinion, it's neither cruel nor abusive. No equine or human for that matter is without potential cruelty or inherent risk. Everything in life has this potential in any chosen action or activity (including the choice of inaction) which may lead to some undesirable outcome, not always intentional. So, realistically, almost any endeavor in life can carry a pointed finger. Horses do not take to cruelty well, horses can be rather mean given their size. Not to be messed with. And, the fact remains, domesticated horses rely on their human connections to care for them. While there are a small number of less than caring humans, one cannot fault the perceived actions of a negative minority.
Regarding whips, the talking heads need to update and educate. The new equipment feels and works differently than the old. On the OLD equipment popper on the end of a traditional riding crop is about two inches long and made of solid leather. Used too vigorously, it can raise welts and draw blood. However, NOT so the new whips, which are tipped by a popper about six inches long. Sewn inside a soft pad of woven fibers made to look like leather is a piece of foam. When it strikes horseflesh, the lighter, thickly padded whips make an impressive pop while delivering their cushioned message. Horses used to being encouraged by the whips sting may no longer feel compelled to respond. Riders accustomed to whaling away in the stretch may discover they're wasting energy.Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux states. "The whip is not a whip," "It's a noisemaker."
Addressing cruelty- work horses on farms are the ones that are treated cruel, it's heart breaking, for many to most are very thin, malnutrition, sick, and have many diseases and the fact they never get the proper care, food, shoes, etc..those are the people that need to be look at. Again, you are, however, entitled to your question and sharing your feelings, as I share with you my opinion, but keep in mind cruelty & abuse isn't always the case. WE all should do the best we can in life to keep people and animals safe :)

How long before humans become inbred?
Probably thousands of animals have become extinct because of inbreeding.
How many years will elapse before humans (or perhaps one or more of human subspecies) become inbred?
Answer: We already are - on average and without any consideration for factors like region or other connections, a person selected at random from the population will be the genetic equivalent of somewhere between a 4th and 5th cousin.
If you choose someone coming from your particular region, the number jumps (because of our tendency to set up 'roots'), placing the 'average' person closer to a 3rd cousin.
So, if you get it on with someone who you know is most closely defined as a 5th cousin, you're actually doing better than average in avoiding inbreeding!
Disturbing implications of statistical genetics aside, inbreeding is only seriously dangerous if you mate with someone within one or two steps on the family tree from yourself - even conceiving with a 1st cousin presents significantly less risk of genetic disease to a child than, say, conceiving with a woman who's over 40. The familial closeness of humanity in general is very comfortably distant enough to be 'safe,' genetically speaking.

Why and how a German Sheperd Dog can be white in color?
I am thinking of adopting a second dog from county animal shelter. I was sent pictures of all dogs in shelter, and i seemed to like one of them. He is 2 year old male German Sheperd Dog. However, his color is completely white.
I have never seen a GSD being fully white. I tried to ask shelter why and how a GSD is white and they said they dont know anything about it.
Isnt GSD supposed to be tan and black in color? Or am i being told the wrong breed of the dog?
Answer: While purebred german shepherds who happen to be white are less common, and aren't recognized by the show dog folks -- who cares? Unless you wanted a show dog, it just doesn't matter. And contrary to someone's earlier remark, coloring has nothing to do with health problems such as displaysia etc. (although hip displasia is common in shepherds and many other large breeds--but not due to pigmentation)
Also, ANY breed can produce the occasional albino. We've lived in the northwoods for 20-some years, and I've seen 3 different albino deer around our house in that time. A friend of mine had a gorgeous perfectly healthy albino dalmatian. Of course she couldn't "show" him if she'd wanted to, but what a honey! In cats, a true albino is often deaf, but I know of no such connection with albino dogs. Personally, I would much rather have the uniqueness of the white dog than one that looks like every other one :)
One more thing: I am an unabashed MUTT LOVER!!!
PS: Hey there down below --what the heck are you doing going off about breeding for color?? This beautiful dog is in the POUND and seeking a home, for pity's sake. As far as a GSD is "supposed" be any color except white--again, that's just the AKC's position and is irrelevant to this question!

Why do scientist use latin and greek names to clasify animals?
Why do scientist use lating and/or greek names to clasify animals?
Answer: In Western Civilization, the earliest scientific exploration came from the Greeks. Since it started there, it is still used. Later, as power centers moved away from Greece, a new language come to the forefront. Latin was the universal language throughout the Dark Ages because the only real connection between countries were through the Roman Catholic religion, which used Latin as their language to communicate between different speaking nations. Thus, Latin became the standard between countries using different languages. This new, post-Greek science started out using Latin as its universal language as well, hence the connection. All of the "romantic languages" of Europe come from Latin roots.
Here in the United States (where I live), we speak English. Except for people in Kentucky. I have no idea how to speak their language. But to get back to my point, English is a Germanic Language, but it has accepted thousands of Latin and Greek terms in the scientific/medical fields. Is I said, the Catholic Church ruled Europe for centuries, all the way deep into the late 1800s (and father, depending on your point of view). In those days (even the early 1900s), scientists didn't see a necessary total split between science versus religion, and were surrounded by Latin every Sunday and holidays. It was a natural place for those early scientists to go for a rich source of new descriptive words. Along with most any scholar, most poets and other icons of literature up to the 20th century were commonly schooled in Latin and Greek. They read in the great works of the ancients Aristotle, Plato, Homer, Pythagorus, Lucretius, Marcus Aurelius in their original languages (no translation is every perfect). Even well into the 20th century the mark of a learned person was to some extent marked by their command of Latin and Greek.
Even though there were Germanic, Slavic, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and other independent languages, it was the fact that the "Latin/Greek" scientists were ahead of everyone else that Latin became the worldwide standard.
From a less important, and more silly point of view, we all know how to pronounce Latin words (or at least, well enough to make an educated guess), whereas if everyone was using their own language, I would have difficulty pronouncing something in Russian, Arabic, or Chinese (which one?), and thus, difficulty talking about it with another scientist (or in reverse, understanding what they were saying).
That's why Latin/Greek is global convention. Someday I'm going to spend a few hundred dollars on that Rosetta Stone software so that I can finally learn to speak Canadian...
