How is my short writing?
Ive got this writing for my English class.were supposed to make a paragraph for this headline:
"Local girls evidence gets the mugger 2 years prison"
Mine is:
The famous mugger who robbed 8 victims in the last month was arrested last night.
Two weeks ago,it was reported that this man was seen in the West street stabbing an elderly man. With the knife taken by the local girl, the police investigated the fingerprints and could catch the mugger red-handed.
In the court,he was convicted of the crime as the judge passed the verdict. So hes now sentenced to two years prison.
I know its not very good but any ideas are appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Answer: Well, here is my attempt to help you:
Local girl's evidence gets the mugger 2 years prison:
Charged under an attempt to rob an elderly couple in the street, the mugger gets 2 years prison sentence. The case turned in favor of the police when a local girl, just before her shop this mugger acted violently towards the couple, helped to identify about the robber. She cleared them about his physical attractions and once the police showed her the photo lineup, she pointed out the right person within seconds. Now the couple is very happy for being treated fairly on their complaint and they thanked the local girl as well for her brave achievement.
Hope it helps you :)

You Pick Your IDIOT FOR NOMINATION?
THIS ARE ALL TRUE FACTS NOT A STORY FROM 2005-2007.
#1. IDIOT OF 2006
A true story out of San Francisco : A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America , walked into the branch and wrote "this iz a stikkup. Put all your muny in this bag" While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the tellers window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to Wells Fargo . After waiting a Few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargo teller.
She read it and, surmising from his spelling errors that he wasnt the brightest light in the street told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on a Bank of America deposit slip and that he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargo deposit slip or go back to Bank of America. Looking somewhat defeated, the man said, "OK" and left. He was Arrested a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America .
Dont bother with this guys award. He probably couldnt read it anyway.
#2. IDIOT OF 2005
The next nomination goes to a pair of profoundly idiotic criminals from Wisconsin who clearly didnt watch enough cartoons growing up. The dynamic duo attempted to steal gasoline from a lawnmower late last summer, but were having trouble manipulating the siphon inside the dark shed. So they decided to illuminate their crime scene with a match. As anyone whos watched "Tom and Jerry" might have predicted, the open flame ignited the gasoline fumes, resulting in severe burns, an incinerated shed -- and two very worthy nominations for Idiot of the Year.
#3. IDIOT OF 2007
Next is Kevin Colvin, an intern at the Anglo Irish Bank of North America. Colvin e-mailed his manager on the afternoon of Oct. 31, claiming "something came up at home" in New York and that he needed to miss work the next day. For whatever reason, perhaps managerial intuition, his boss decided to inspect Colvins Facebook page on Nov. 1 and apparently found pictures of the intern dressed as a fairy, beer in hand, at a Halloween party in Massachusetts. Rather than reprimand him, the manager decided to have a little fun. He shot Colvin an e-mail back stating: "Thanks for letting us know -- hope everything is ok in New York. (cool wand)" with the fairy picture attached. And if that werent embarrassing enough, the manager reportedly BCCed the rest of the company.
#4. IDIOT OF 2006
Jonathan Maybery, of Swansea, Wales, started 2007 with a bang -- or rather a staple. After a night of boozing and watching "Jackass," the 24-year-old caretaker for the elderly thought it would be a brilliant idea to staple his hand to a coffee table. According to reports, he and a friend lined up the hand and, yes, stapled-gunned it -- though apparently he was "too busy laughing to feel any pain." Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, but they were unable to separate him from the table. Instead, they took him to the hospital by ambulance "with the piece of furniture still attached to his hand."
#5. IDIOT OF 2006
I am a medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology at the poison control centre. Today, this woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants. I quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital. She calmed down and at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants. I told her that she better bring her daughter into the emergency room right away.
Heres your award, lady. Wear it with pride.
Answer: number one and five definitely deserve to win. haha

(and the teacher obviously supported more gun laws) I gave some info off of the top of my head that i knew but I know theres a lot more and I need it just in case theres another debate and i only had 2 other supporters in the room vs like 10...

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity ... will respect the less important and arbitrary ones ... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." — Thomas Jefferson
Gun Control Defined.......
A theory espoused by some people; who claim to believe, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.
I got this from another answerer on Y!A
This is a post from an Australian police officer...
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the now available data
from Down Under. It has now been one year (12 months) since gun
owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal
firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing
Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now available:
-Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent;
-Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
-Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent);
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up
300 percent as compared with the last one year period when private
ownership of a firearm was legal.
(NB: the law-abiding citizens did turn in their personal firearms,
the criminal element did not and thus criminals in Australia still
possess their guns.)
-While data for the 25 years preceding the confiscation of privately
owned guns showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms,
this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months as criminals
now are assured their victims will be unarmed.
-There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults
of the elderly, while the resident is at home. Australian politicians are
at a loss to explain how public safety has
decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
successfully ridding Australian society of guns.'
-This story of well intentioned government intervention in the
rights of lawful individuals to own and possess firearms won't be seen in the
mainstream US media or on the American evening news. Senator Obama
who advocates a similar confiscation in the US will not be reporting
any of this to you. But, the Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the
hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws
affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Americans may want to take note before it's too late!

You know....48 states allow conceal carry permits. Chances are you walk past dozens of men and women over the age of 21 who had a handgun on their person and did not even know it. Then you have to wonder why Chicago and DC who have really strict gun control and bans (Not DC anymore), but have higher crime especially gun crime? If guns are or were banned, under your logic that should not have happened...but it did.....
according to the 2006 IL UCR.
Illinois had a population of 12.8 million w/ a murder rate of 6.1/100K (780)
Chicago had 22.2% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 60% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 16.4/100K
Cook County had 41.4% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 73.6% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 10.83/100K
The Cook County murders in raw number/per capita increased 4.4% and 4.9% respectively while arrest numbers and rates dropped over 18% from '05 to '06.
If Chicago were to fall into Lake Michigan, the Illinois murder rate would drop to 3.14
Were the rest of Cook County to follow suit, the rate would drop to 2.74.
So far this year, murders are up 18%. (summer of ’08)
And where are the strictest gun laws?

Can you PLEASE read this essay? Its for my final!?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :)
tell me any mistakes or changes please!!! love you so much :)
Its about whether to convict adolescents as adults or not
The sentence rang through the room and his punishment was death. Each year, more males and females under the age of eighteen are being convicted as adults for their crimes. While many see it as a harsh punishment, can the teenagers who are convicted be considered immature and “seriously impaired” to the court system (Krikorian Pg. 1)? Is it fair to say a man of eighteen years and a boy of 17 years, convicted for the same charges, be given separate sentences?
Many counter-arguments revolve around the theory that a large number of juveniles are not competent to stand trial or understand the long-term effects of their crimes (Krikorian Pg. 1). While the juveniles themselves may not understand what is happening at the trial it does not make an excuse for the crimes that they had committed. “They probably thought that he wasn’t showing remorse…He laughed at inappropriate things. He still didn’t quite get the magnitude of everything he did,” said Mrs. Acuna, mother of seventeen-year-old convicted juvenile, Robert Acuna, for murdering two elderly neighbors (Liptak Pg. 1). The expressions and laughter during the trial could be confused as the inability of Mr. Acuna to understand his crime, but also as the mentality of a criminal. “…the vast majority of teenagers, even young ones, know enough to be tried in adult court. ‘The notion that teenagers are not capable of understanding what is going on I find not credible in the case of mentally normal teenagers,’” said Kent Scheidegger, the legal director of the conservative Criminal Justice Legal Foundation (Krikorian Pg. 2). If the quote is true, is it not possible that juvenile crimes are pre-contemplated?
Is it also possible that the juveniles who are “immature” and “…not competent to stand trial,” are doing nothing but trying to exploit their youth to the jurors? “At the trial, he looked different. ‘He appeared as though someone had tried to make him look eight years old all over again,’” said Tim Carroll, the son of the couple Mr. Acuna had murdered (Liptak Pg. 2).
The line between immature child and future criminal is thin in these arguments, but if no reason for the crime is given or legitimate reason, which side is taken? Nathaniel Brazill, age fourteen, was on trial for taking the life of his teacher where he admitted that he favored when they brought up that he had shot his teacher and yet he had no claim of reason for doing so (Thompson Pg. 1). He had no reason for the killing, that he claimed, yet he had committed the murder in spite of that fact and claimed to have enjoyed hearing it again. Normal minded people would find the act of favoring to hear the story of a murder, “heinous.” Another case not to long before Brazill, a fifteen-year-old Yuba City (Sacramento) youth attempted to rob a bank and claimed he was mimicking a television show about little girls who rob a bank. He was given a 26-years-to-life prison term (Lundstrom Pg. 1).
To allow juveniles to be convicted as adults is not only to keep crime out of the streets, but it is also helping with the amount of youths on trial. “…nearly every state has moved to make it easier to charge kids as adults-juvenile crime is way down,” (Lundstrom Pg. 2). The fact that juveniles are realizing now that they can and likely will be convicted as adults, is decreasing the crimes that they are committing. Before the states’ decision, juveniles believed and knew that they would likely face juvenile charges instead of adult charges that only made them more confident in committing these crimes. “The nation’s juvenile arrest rate for murder fell sixty-eight percent from 1993 to 1999, hitting its lowest level since 1966, according to the Justice Department. The juvenile arrest rate for violent crime overall fell thirty-six percent from 1994 to 1999,” (Lundstrom Pg. 2).
To put a juvenile on a stand as an adult is not a crime, it is the juvenile who committed the crime. They had their reason for it, they knew what could have happened and yet they did it anyway. The juvenile male or juvenile female deserves the same consequences for their mistakes as a criminal adult and should be treated as one.
Answer: Hi. Here, I've edited it for you, but it will not hurt to let somebody proofread it as well.
Please check if the quote “…In nearly every state that has moved to make it easier to charge kids as adults, juvenile crime is way down” is accurate. I had to modify it because the original seemed confusing, and I was thinking the confusion was caused by typos, but if not, then it should be brought back to its original form.
Good luck with your essay!

Washington was fired for standing up against gay rights???
http://tv.yahoo.com/greys-anatomy/show/36657/news/urn:newsml:tv.ap.org:20070608:tv_grey_s_anatomy_washington__ER:14972
according to this, greys anatomy star Burke was fired after a comment denouncing gay rights, this is pathetic, it is called freedom of speech people!
And if you dont want to use the freedom of speech card for cafetieria picking and choosing then look at the fact that he apologized AND was forgiven AND it was just a word that is used all the time by many....doesnt it just mean this...
faggot - a bundle of sticks and branches bound together
granted it also is used as other things but calling someone a name and getting fired? that is a little over the top.
everyone answering keeps saying things about me being denounced or called a name but the thing is it is just a name. remember that little thing eeryone learned in school... sticks and stones break bones but words will never hurt me?
Another thing, if someone said something about womens rights or something realting to me i still wouldnt care because it is an opinion, but why fire someone for an opinion?
Answer: Wow - where have you been in the last six months? Don't you know that it is illegal for you to use the following phrases/word at work, or you lose all your benefits(even if you worked there 30 years and are to retire next week) no retirement, life insurance, medical, everything gone, poof:
1. "family values"
2. "natural family"
3. "marriage" (only lose your benefits and job if you were speaking of a marriage between a man and a woman - if you were engaged in a conversation about how lovely george and jim's gay wedding was, don't worry - you are safe as a bug in a rug)
Say "bye bye" freedom of speech. And if that really gets your goat, you'll love this:
You can now say "bye bye" to your religious rights, too, if you live in my State of Pennsylvania; but the law I'm gonna tell you about will soon apply across the Nation, if they are able to pass it as Federal Law, which they are trying desperately to do:
Two old grandmoms, one 75 and one 76 years of age were arrested in Philadelphia, PA, and charged with the State level of bill HR1592, for comitting a "hate crime". They were charged with the exact same crime as if you dragged a person out to a field, beat them mercilessly, and left them bleeding and for dead. What horrible thing did these two old women do? Ready?
They did what they have done every Sunday afternoon for the past 25 years:
They handed out little Bible pamphlets and said "Have a God filled day, hon". Ut oh.
They were arrested, fingerprinted, changed to prison garb, and thrown into general population of the County Jail. They await a sentence of 47 years in prison, each.
Why? Because under that law, remember, soon to be federal law, these two women
handed out Bible verbage and included in it is Gods Word against being homosexual.
The law states that if you are handing out literature that says you are against gays, then you must agree with the literature. If you agree with the literature, then you are a hate-filled person. If you are a hate filled person, then its just as bad as comitting an actual physcial hate crime. The same as dragging the guy and beating him up.
The two women only made one mistake, and didn't realize it: they handed out one of their little Bibles to a gay guy. The bill HR1592 gives ELEVATED STATUS to homosexuals and crossdressers. In fact, if
you rob, beat up and spit on an elderly or retarded person, you will get 33% LESS JAIL TIME THAN IF YOU GIVE LITERATURE TO A GAY PERSON. Some Senators spoke to the Gay lobbyists and said well, why do you feel you need additional protection under the law? We have laws in place and anyone who is attacked will be subjected to the strictest of those laws, regardless of who they are. They said oh no, we need more protection because of who we are. Yet, a black person is 200% more likely to be a victim of a hate crime; a jew is over 300% more likely to be a victim. So the Senators asked that if elevated status was to be given to people who are esspecially in jeopardy, we need to give that elevated status to the handicapped/disabled, to the elderly, and to children. The gay lobbyists refused to even discuss it; their statement was "no, this bill is for the safety of homosexual citizens and crossdressing citizens for their protection".
If the VAtech shooter had lived, and it went to court, do you realize that the victims would have been called "second tier" victims because they are not homosexuals?
How do you think the parents of those dead kids feel when their kids are being called "second tier" to gays? How would you feel if it was your dead child? Second tier my ass; welcome to the brand new United States of the gays and offended.
If that bill passes, understand that means that pastors and priests can be arrested after giving Sunday morning sermons; any teacher of Scripture will be liable for arrest.
I know this full well, since I am one of them and expect to be arrested almost immediately after the bill becomes Federal Law. Myself, along with many other Bible scholars, are making legal provisions for our children so that upon that arrest, our kids won't have to sit in foster homes.
This is no joke, but the way this Nation is headed and if it weren't all prophecied to be this bad and way, way worse just before the return of Christ, then I would really be having a hard time with it. What keeps my
head on straight is knowing how close it is to the return of Christ. When He returns, this time its not as a lamb to the slaughter, but as a King, and a very, very angry one at that. People will be taught self disipline which they badly need. They will shape up
or they will be gone, period. There isn't gonna be anymore of this nonsense.
Thank God for that. Until then, hold onto the bar, because its gonna get real, real hot in the kitchen.
